How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 01Add your PNG filesExports, screenshots, downloaded graphics - anything PNG.
  2. 02Set JPG quality85-90 preserves detail; lower values trade fidelity for bytes.
  3. 03Download .jpg filesUniversally accepted, dramatically lighter copies.

Features

Dramatic savings

Photographic PNGs routinely shrink 80%+ as quality-tuned JPGs.

White-flatten handling

Transparent areas composite onto white rather than turning black.

Explicit quality dial

You decide the fidelity-size tradeoff, visibly.

Compatibility unlock

Legacy systems, old CMSes, and strict forms accept JPG universally.

Metadata stripped

Converted files shed any embedded metadata.

Batch efficiency

Whole export folders convert in one pass.

The pragmatics of leaving PNG

Storage reality

Photo-as-PNG is a taxonomy error; JPG corrects it at 5× savings.

Upload compatibility

Systems rejecting PNG remain surprisingly common; JPG never gets rejected.

Bandwidth kindness

Recipients on slow connections receive images meaningfully faster.

Backup economics

Libraries measured in gigabytes shrink to hundreds of megabytes.

Compression Choices

The transparency question before converting

One question determines whether PNG-to-JPG conversion is appropriate: does this image need transparency? JPG has no alpha channel, so conversion flattens transparent regions onto a solid background - white by convention. Logos destined for colored headers suddenly wear white boxes.

When transparency doesn't matter - photographs, screenshots, full-bleed graphics - the conversion is pure profit. The same pixels that demanded lossless storage compress into perceptually-tuned JPEG at fractions of the size, and every viewing context from browsers to printers handles the result identically.

Quality settings deserve attention rather than defaults. At 90, conversions are visually indistinguishable and still save enormously. Below 70, artifacts creep into gradients and text. The dial exists so you choose consciously based on how the image will live.

Notes from people who use this often

“Our expense system rejects PNG receipts. Converting with one click ended weekly rejection emails.”

Gabriel Santos - Office worker

“Image-heavy posts lost half their weight converting exported PNGs to sensible JPGs.”

Michelle Tan - Blogger

“Worksheet images finally fit the school portal's limits after conversion - at quality 88 nobody can tell.”

Vladimir Petrov - Teacher

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?

They flatten onto a white background, since JPG cannot represent transparency.

How much smaller will JPGs be?

Photographic content typically shrinks 60-85%; flat graphics shrink less but still substantially.

Will conversion make my image look worse?

At quality 85+, differences are imperceptible for most content. Lower settings progressively trade fidelity for size.

Can I convert back to PNG later?

Yes, but existing JPEG artifacts persist - conversion isn't reversible in the quality sense.

Should screenshots stay PNG?

Generally yes - text and UI edges stay crisper in PNG. Convert photographic content instead.

Is batch conversion supported?

Fully - entire folders convert with uniform settings.
