How to resize JPG photos

  1. 01Select your JPGsStraight-from-camera files, edited exports, or scans.
  2. 02Set the target sizeExact pixels for known layouts, or percentages for quick halving.
  3. 03Download resized photosSmaller dimensions mean smaller files - usually dramatically so.

Features

Camera-output specialist

Handles 20+ megapixel originals smoothly, decoding at safe resolutions internally.

EXIF-free output

Resized copies shed location and device metadata automatically.

Paired with compression

Fewer pixels plus fresh encoding equals compound size savings.

Orientation handled

Rotation flags from phones resolve correctly during decode.

Uniform batches

Mixed-orientation sets come out consistent.

Preview before commit

See the first image and computed dimensions before running the batch.

The case for smaller JPGs

Match display reality

A 6000-pixel photo shown at 1200 pixels wastes 96% of its data.

Speed up sharing

Resized photos attach, upload, and send without waiting.

Protect recipients

Not everyone has gigabit connections or unlimited data.

Simplify backups

Display-sized archives take a fraction of the space.

Practical Pixels

Your camera oversamples on purpose - meet it halfway

Manufacturers pack ever-more megapixels into phone cameras partly for marketing, partly for legitimate reasons: digital zoom cropping, computational photography headroom, and future-proofing. But the moment a photo is destined for a screen or a form field, that resolution becomes dead weight.

The discipline worth building is destination-driven sizing. Profile pictures need 400-800 pixels. Blog content wants 1200-1600. Full-screen wallpapers justify 1920-2560. Everything beyond those ceilings is storage you pay for but never view.

JPEG's compression interacts nicely with resizing: fewer pixels means each one costs less to encode, so a 1200-pixel image at quality 85 is typically ten times smaller than its 6000-pixel parent at the same quality. Resolution reduction is the compression lever that doesn't touch per-pixel fidelity at all.

Notes from people who use this often

“Archiving twenty years of photos became feasible once I normalized everything to screen resolution.”

Marie Dubois - Family historian

“Listing photos at 1600 pixels load instantly on the lot's terrible Wi-Fi. Sales noticed.”

Oscar Reyes - Car dealer

“Slide decks shrank from 80 MB to 9 MB after resizing all the JPGs to actual slide dimensions.”

Fatima Al-Sayed - Course creator

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing my JPG reduce quality?

Downscaling with proper filtering looks essentially identical at display size. Upscaling adds softness proportional to the enlargement.

How do I keep the aspect ratio?

It's automatic - enter width alone or height alone and the missing dimension computes to match.

Can I resize photos from my phone?

Yes. The tool runs in mobile browsers and processes camera-roll images directly.

Does resizing strip EXIF data?

Yes, re-encoding removes GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device information.

What size should I resize to for the web?

1200-1600 pixels wide covers most content columns; 1920+ suits full-width heroes.

Is there a batch limit?

No fixed limit - files process sequentially so memory stays stable.
